Preserving the harvest

Ah, after a day of no Internet my house is cleaner but my mind is running with ideas. Such is the case of a modern day woman;)As the garden grows the preserving begins. I have Angelica stems simmering in a sugar syrup to decorate cakes later in the year; a porcini mushroom ketchup on the stove as well; herbs drying; berries layered in sugar and brandy for a special holiday cordial. I love summer and especially this summer as I am making time for the putting up of the harvest. Today I'm balancing cooking with cleaning. By the end of today all misc "stuff" will find a home so the actual cleaning can begin. I have a visitor coming you see. Marisol my birthday sister will be here for a long weekend next week. A perfect excuse for me to get organized. And I do need those excuses ( welcome them really). As I bring my back room from mud room back to creative space I realize that I'd like to have a small desk in that room; right where my spinning wheel is now. I find as I am spinning this week I am browsing the shelves and getting ideas. I need a spot with my notebooks stacked; yarn nearby and about 6 months of alone time;). Truly in mode with Virginia Wolf's ideas. Ahhh the idea...
